Liz Walsh and Monika Gleeson established Work+Shop 29 Bride Street and have a bricks and mortar studio+shop in The Iveagh Trust Building in Dublin’s historical quarter. They make small batch screen printed products using Irish linen as well as showcasing other Irish makers in the shop.
We started out making things for ourselves as we wanted products with original designs printed onto Linen. We started cutting Lithuanian linen as they still have a rich culture of production there. When we got the chance to open our shop we just knew we had to source the linen at home. Linen production had almost died off but for the few mills in the north of Ireland.
It’s tough to work with, it crumples just by looking at it but it’s beautiful to print onto. We are so happy that there are still flax mills turning out what has been prized for centuries as “the aristocrat among textiles”
Liz designs the artwork, mixes up the dyes and prints all the linen. Monika takes the printed fabric and turns them into wash bags, fabric buckets, project bags for crafters, cushions and messenger bags.
