Brookwood Pottery was set up in 2012 by Elaine Fallon, a ceramicist who trained with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. Elaine produces small batches of handthrown work including large bowls, mugs and other tableware in her Dublin studio onto which she paints and draws her original designs.
At Brookwood Pottery Elaine works in an intuitive way with the clay, allowing each pot to take shape in a fluid making style. She combines traditional making skills with contemporary design to create playful Irish pottery with a fresh edge.
In 2014 artist Marz Lawler joined the pottery as an apprentice. Marz trained as a special effects make up artist and now decorates, designs and handbuilds at the pottery.
Elaine’s design influences include children’s animation and drawing especially the work of Oliver Jeffers, prints and patterns from the 1950 ‘s and 60’s and her interest in contemporary textile and print design.
